After a search, state troopers have located the semi-truck responsible for spilling 12 to 15 bison carcasses on I-94 that caused traffic jams over the weekend.
The situation unfolded at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday in an eastbound I-94 construction zone in Fargo, stretching between Veterans Boulevard and 45th Street, according to the Highway Patrol. Witnesses told troopers that a semi hauling an open trailer slammed on its brakes to avoid suddenly stopped traffic. That abrupt stop caused over a dozen bison carcasses and animal remains to spill across the asphalt.
Because the spill happened in a construction zone, the animal remains completely blocked the only open eastbound lane. State troopers, the West Fargo Fire Department, and the North Dakota Department of Transportation worked to clear the heavy carcasses and wash down the contaminated pavement. Traffic was completely stopped multiple times during that cleanup process.
Though the semi initially left the scene, investigators were able to find the truck and driver the next day.
