The businessman and philanthropist whose name is carried by Sanford Health has died.

Thomas “Denny” Sanford died Saturday at age 90, according to his family and the health system.

Sanford donated $400 million to Sioux Valley Health System in 2007. The organization was renamed Sanford Health and grew into a major regional health system serving patients across North Dakota and neighboring states.

His later contributions supported children’s health, breast cancer care, medical research and virtual care.
