North Dakota’s unemployment rate edged lower in June, following similar movement nationally.

Federal labor statistics show North Dakota’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a percentage point to 2.3%. The national rate also declined one-tenth of a point, to 4.2%.

North Dakota had the country’s second-lowest unemployment rate. South Dakota was lowest at 2%.

According to the data released, the state’s total nonfarm employment increased by about 1,100 jobs from May as seasonal construction activity picked up. Employment was nearly unchanged from a year earlier, with about 200 fewer jobs statewide.

Health care, education and government recorded some of the largest annual gains. Wholesale trade and professional and business services reported the largest losses.
