Gas prices in North Dakota are rising more rapidly than industry analysts predicted two weeks ago when the U.S-Iran War re-intensified.
Prices for a gallon of regular unleaded averages $3.91 this morning, according to AAA. That’s up nearly 40 cents from two weeks ago and a dollar higher than at this time last year.
Stations in Stutsman County are reporting prices right near the statewide average, while Cass County has the state’s cheapest unleaded, with averages at $3.54 a gallon.
Western North Dakota has seen the sharpest increases, with prices in Williams, McKenzie, and Mountrail Counties averaging over $4 per gallon. Prices in Dunn County have eclipsed $4.20 a gallon.
Diesel prices have also climbed rapidly. Prices average $4.64 per gallon in North Dakota, up over 30 cents from two weeks ago, and $1.10 higher than a year ago.
Future prices remain uncertain, with crude oil prices fluctuating rapidly over the past two weeks. The Brent Crude index rose to over $87 last Friday before falling sharply to $78 a barrel on Tuesday morning. Prices have risen back above $82 in pre-market trading on Wednesday.
