Jamestown is heading into a warmer and windier weekend, with the next better storm chance arriving late Sunday.
The National Weather Service says a few showers and thunderstorms are possible late today, but storms are not expected to be widespread or severe around Jamestown.
Saturday looks like the best day of the weekend for outdoor plans with the forecast calling for sunshine, a high near 88 and south winds increasing during the afternoon. By the evening winds could be fairly strong, with gusts approaching 30 miles per hour.
Sunday will be hotter and windier. The high is expected near 93, with south winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour.
The Weather Service says isolated to scattered severe storms are possible Saturday night in western North Dakota, then again late Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening across much of western and central North Dakota.
The main threats Sunday would be large hail and damaging wind gusts. The NWS has issued a Level 2 severe storm threat advisory for most of central and western parts of the state.
For Jamestown and the James River Valley, the better storm chance comes Sunday night into Monday morning.
Forecasters expect a more active severe weather pattern could develop and continue into next week, marking the stormiest period of the year so far.
