Montana-Dakota Utilities is asking state regulators to approve a 14.5% increase in its North Dakota electric rates.
An interim proposal would add about $12.90 per month to a typical residential customer’s bill. That 12.3% interim increase would begin Sept. 1 if approved by the North Dakota Public Service Commission.
The full request would bring MDU an expected additional $34.5 million in annual revenue.
MDU says the increase would cover higher operating, maintenance, labor and infrastructure costs since its last rate case in 2022. The company says the request is not connected to data centers or the Jamestown-to-Ellendale transmission line.
The case affects MDU electric customers, including customers in Ellendale and several surrounding communities. MDU provides gas, but not power, to the Jamestown area and customers in the city would be unaffected.
The Public Service Commission will debate whether to approve the full increase, or a partial amount.
